Cupping Therapy in Rockledge, FL

A safe and natural therapy to treat muscle pain

Cupping has been used for hundreds of years by cultures on nearly every continent; from Asia to Europe, from South America to Papua New Guinea, healers and laypeople globally have used varying devices to “cup” the body as a form of therapy. Cupping continues to be used in modern times mainly for its therapeutic value in relieving tight or sore muscles and various aches, pains, and strains.

Cupping is used to pull the affected muscle tissue into the cup to create compression. The cups are then held in place for several minutes with the “negative pressure” pulling blood into the area. Afterwards the cups are removed and the area may appear dark red or purple indicating an area of stagnation. These cup marks usually last for just a short while, but in serious or chronic cases the marks may last up to a weeks time. Practitioners of cupping may continue to treat these areas of stagnation until the color appears less purple, indicating that the area is receiving the required nutrients and blood flow for tissue repair.

Some variations of cupping involve the use of an open flame placed beneath a sterilized cup to create a vacuum-like effect, while others involve a simple hand pump to pressurize the cup. When oil or lotion is placed over the body the cups can be slid across different muscle groups, massaging and relaxing the tissues. Overall, the procedure is painless and generally well tolerated.
